Abstract
This article presents a study which aimed to identify the meanings that a mother who gave two children for adopion attributed to her experiences and ties. This case study was based on an individual interview oriented by the Thematic Life History. The interview was recorded, transcribed and submitted to discourse analysis. Among the main results are: 1) the conflictive relationship between the woman interviewed and her mother; 2) the inclusion of the interviewed in a fragile social network of support through her life; 3)the continous presnt memory of adoption; 4)the secret about giving the children for adoption, and the resulting social prejudices. The authors conclude that additional studies are needed on this issue and that public policies are relevant in working with families to strengthen their bonds.
