Cox, C. L. (2012). Caring: a patient’s perspective. Gastrointestinal Nursing, 10(2), p. 5.
Abstract
The author discusses the varied definitions of 'caring,' and highlights her experience of being in the hospital for surgery for a bowel obstruction, peritonitis and sepsis. She explains the changes in her perspectives on caring, from when she was a nursing student and after she began practicing. The author states that her hospitalization made her realize that nurses can convey a sense of 'caring' by being with a patient, rather than just doing the tasks assigned to them.
