Abstract

Objective: This study examines the relationship between mistreatment during childbirth care and childbirth-related posttraumatic stress disorder (CB-PTSD) and investigates how perceived trauma and birth satisfaction may mediate this relationship. Method: This is a cross-sectional study with 651 participants conducted in Brazil. The association between mistreatment and other variables and CB-PTSD symptoms was analyzed via Structural Equation Model. Results: The analysis found a significant association between mistreatment and CB-PTSD. Additionally, birth satisfaction and perceiving childbirth as traumatic served as a mediating factor between mistreatment and CB-PTSD. Conclusions: Mistreatment during childbirth increases the risk of developing CB-PTSD.
