Abstract

In this chapter, we examine how awareness and literacy can be effectively transformed into meaningful action. We tackle this issue by asking digital rights Non-Governmental Organizations’ (NGO) practitioners about their experience on what mobilizes citizens to act against Big-Tech, and how data citizenship can offer possible ways forward for society to take. This chapter seeks to understand how this sense of ‘powerlessness’ is articulated and what literacies and support mechanisms people need to go against Big-Tech companies.
