Abstract

The economizer in industrial ammonia refrigeration compressors is essential to increase the coefficient of performance (COP) by enhancing thermodynamic efficiency, increasing refrigeration capacity, decreasing compressor workload, and improving overall system reliability. To enhance these advantages, it is crucial to optimize the parameters of the economizer port, including port diameter, port position, economizer pressure, and economizer temperature. This study aims to determine the ideal economizer port specifications for an industrial screw compressor to enhance the coefficient of performance (COP). A chamber model-based methodology, together with Bayesian optimization, was utilized to ascertain the ideal parameter values. Experimental testing was performed under diverse operating settings without an economizer to create a baseline. Subsequently, the impact of integrating an economizer with optimized settings was evaluated across various built-in volume ratios, demonstrating a quantifiable enhancement of 2–8% in COP. The results highlight the capacity of economizer optimization to enhance system performance and energy efficiency. Future endeavors will entail the fabrication of an economizer port utilizing the optimized parameters and the validation of experimental outcomes against the chamber model analysis to enhance the credibility of the proposed optimization framework.
