Abstract

Social media use can be defined in many ways, which has resulted in different methods of measurement. Social media use can be measured using both psychological and behavioural components. Psychological components may include aspects such as intensity or motivations for use, while behavioural components may include aspects such as frequency of use, passive and active use, and problematic use. While there are many ways to measure social media use, it is difficult to develop a universal way to measure it due to a variety of factors including differences between platforms, the rapid evolution of features, and differences in how ‘social media use’ is defined.
