Examines a sample of 18 costs awards by the Patent Court in respect of patent infringement and invalidity cases from 2000-08 to assess: (1) the court's use of discretion in applying the issue-based approach to costs; (2) its approach to disproportionate costs between the parties; (3) its approach to interim costs; (4) the typical costs arising from a case heard by the court; (5) the factors influencing these costs; and (6) the impact of procedural reforms at the Patents County Court.
