Garcia De Frutos, M. & Wiseman, O. ORCID: 0000-0003-4890-9435 The displaced/migrant client. (4 ed.) In: Bowden, J. & Bassett, S. (Eds.), Health Promotion in Midwifery Principles and Practice. . Abingdon, UK: Routledge.
Abstract
This chapter will explore the personal and structural issues faced by migrant women and birthing people attending for maternity care in the UK. We will clarify different kinds of ‘legal status’ and how this, along with charging policies, impact on migrants’ access to care and their maternal and neonatal outcomes. Improving equity of access and outcomes in maternity services is an important public health issue and this chapter will also detail migrant women’s rights, and what midwives can do to support them.
