Abstract

This paper represents an exploration of organizational architecture and interior design insofar as it represents a technology of interpellation that encourages various forms of identity to become privileged over others. In particular, it focuses on the design and aesthetic management of the Saltire Centre, a UK university library. It is argued that through a combination of architectural and aesthetic techniques, this building operates as what is termed an identityscape – a spatially bounded site oriented towards the production of economically viable modes of identity conducive to the demands of a post‐industrial economy.
